Mushrooms contain a lot of such 'antioxidants' which help in improving health as well as slowing down the rate of aging. This claim has been made in a study.
What the research says - Researchers found that mushrooms contain large amounts of ergothioneine and glutathione, and both are very important antioxidants. Their number varies in each species of mushroom.
What the experts say - Professor Robert Bielman of the Pennsylvania State University of America told that mushrooms are the best source of both these antioxidants and in some types of mushrooms both are present together.
He told that when the body uses food to make energy, it also creates 'oxidative stress.
This oxidative stress can be avoided by replenishing the antioxidants in the body.
