High rise in the death toll of the Botad-Ahmedabad Hooch tragedy, as the death toll now has risen to 32 in Botad and 10 in rural areas of Ahmedabad. Speaking at a press conference in Gandhinagar the Additional Director of Police Law and Order said “the death toll has risen to 42 with 10 in Ahmedabad rural and 32 in Botad, wh97 were admitted in various hospitals, 3 FIR’s have been filed and we have arrested 15 people including the chief conspirator.” The State’s Home minister and Gujarat's Director General of Police were also at the press conference.
Further talking about the case in a press conference he said “investigation has revealed that only 50 liters of the consignment have reached the victims to the retail distribution network which resulted in deaths. We have organized a special drive to crack down on the bootleggers in every district.”
Expressing the great pain and sympathizing with the victims and their family members Sanghavi said “the staff of an Ahmedabad-based chemical company has stolen 600 liters of poisonous chemicals and sold it in different villages of Botad. We have formed around 30 groups with 2,500 police to conduct raids in villages and farms in Ahmedabad and Botad to look at the possible victims.”
